Introduction / Why This is All FREE

Introduction

The objective of this blog is to create a platform for primary school students to share their compositions online. The composition can be a draft or a piece of writing already marked and reviewed by a teacher or tutor. Comments and suggestions will be added to the composition and re-posted in the blog.

By creating such a non-threatening sharing and learning environment, students can learn from one another and from the given suggestions.

The most substantive criteria for this platform to work is that we must be willing to share!

Resources here will probably be more suitable for the upper primary levels as I've never taught the lower primary levels. There is also a change in the English syllabus for Primary 1 and 4 (2013), thus, I will keep a look out for any relevant resources to share when available.

I am also keen to post resources which can help students build up their language ability and content development. However, these take time to develop. So do check back often!

So, Why Am I Doing This????!!!!!

Extremely good question.
I've been asking myself this question continuously while starting this site.

I should be enjoying my early retirement at such a 'young' age. But...
I seriously love teaching. It is a calling and I want to continue until the day I SIMPLY cannot do so.

Close colleagues and many pupils whom I've taught will know well that I love my job without a doubt.
There were times whereby I could not perform as well as I had wanted to too.
I am not claiming to be a great teacher but I tried my very best within my personal limits.

So, it's all FREE!
No subscription fees. No tuition fees. No hidden links. No hidden costs.

ONLY Ads. (no sneaky, hidden links...I do not like them too!!!! )

If you like what I am doing here for the children in Singapore, spread the news.
I'd appreciate it tremendously.

Thank you.

OK...I'll Tell...

I was unwilling to share this initially but here goes...

My child has a peculiar condition and balancing teaching and caring for her has proved to be too overwhelming for me both mentally and physically. We made the decision for me to stop work.

When her condition stabilizes, I may return to teaching but at the moment I am very much based at home.

Can you please don't ask me about the problem...haiz...

  3. Hi, I saw your post on KS forum and really thank you for your selfless sharing of your experience and expertise. DS1 is now in P2 and DS2 in K2 & DD3 in N2. I will be following your blog for tips on how to enagage my child to write as he is really quite weak in his writing/spelling etc.
    Thanks very much for sharing

  4. Hi Mui Hong,
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Mmm...I am not sure if it is appropriate for me to comment...But if you feel strongly about your child's progress AND your guidance and tuition does not seem to be helping, do talk to his teachers. There are late bloomers, different learning styles and there are children who need extra support. So do be open about approaching his teachers! If you do not mind emailing me or pm me in the forum, I can try to assess his learning needs and see if I can help.

  5. Hello,

May I have the answers for the below passage, please? :)

    TIA.

    Cheers.

The sky was a clear azure blue. Mrs Tan had just returned home from her usual shopping trip from the market. She waited patiently at the lift lobby for the lift to arrive. As she was thinking about what to prepare for dinner that evening, she did not notice a man peeping at her from behind a nearby pillar.

When the lift arrived, Mrs Tan stepped in quickly. Suddenly, the man rushed in and ________________________________________. Mrs Tan was a brave and stubborn woman. ________________________________________. The robber took out a knife and threatened," Give me your bag now!" Mrs Tan was so frightened that she screamed at the top of her voice. The alarmed robber decided to give up and so he _________________________________.

Mrs Tan was relieved that she was unhurt. She did not know if she should call the police. When she got back home, she called her neighbour, Mdm Yati and told her what had happened. "You too? I was also robbed last week in the lift! Maybe we should go to the police together?" The women could not believe that the robber ________________________________ so soon after robbing Mdm Yati. They decided to lodge a police report immediately.

At the police station, Mrs Tan and Mdm Yati were shocked to learn that they were not the first to report about the lift robbery. The police recorded their statement and assured the women that they were already taking action. Through ________________________________________________. The police ambushed outside the robber's flat and he was ______________________________ when he was about to enter his home. The robber ____________________________ where all the stolen goods were stashed. Mdm Yati was informed by the police that they had _________________________________________________________________ and would be returning them to her once the items were recorded as evidence.

The following day, the series of robberies was reported in the news. The robber ______________________________________________ and was ________________________________. Mrs Tan and Mdm Yati were so relieved that the robber was caught. They also agreed to be more attentive and always to be on the look-out for suspicious characters in the future.e the answers for the below passage, please? :)

  9. Hi I happened to read your blog when I was browsing the net regarding compo writing. The blog is just wonderful.
My daughter is now in primary 1 and she has a flair for reading. Please suggest ways to improve writing skill particularly compo writing. Should I have to put her in enrichment class or can I do at home? Iam a SAHM and I am quite willing to put in that extra effort. But as of now I feel quite stranded and directionless. Thank you for your time.

    1. Hi Jagdeeshwari, Thank you! Actually, this blog is kind of outdated : ) My latest website is http://icanwritetoo-sg.weebly.com and it has a lot more new resources! As for putting your child in enrichment class, I think it is far too early. I personally feel children should enjoy their childhood and PLAY! Unless she faces difficulties in school e.g. not doing well for school work, tests then might you want to consider that. Talk to her teacher and find out her general progress. As for writing, has the school started getting them to write? Most schools start composition writing in Semester 2. If you would like me to have a look at her work, feel free to email me an image / scan of her written work.

She is moving in the right direction. Once she has a passion for reading, the battle is already half won! For general ideas on helping beginning writers, you can refer to http://icanwritetoo-sg.weebly.com/tips-for-struggling-frustrated-and-beginning-writers.html

I will love to give you more details but if I can see her work, my suggestions would be so much more relevant!

Thank you again for supporting my work! Cheers!
